CREATIVE | CONSULTANT | CHANGEMAKER
Kylie Burton's lifelong passion for the arts, health and education has culminated in work as a sought-after dance specialist, body image and education consultant, author and keynote speaker. Drawing on several decades of both industry and lived experience, Kylie now supports other teachers and families, as she advocates for a growing shift in dance culture and nutrition education, towards safer and more inclusive practices.
At the age of 15, Kylie began full-time training with the Queensland Ballet, attaining both a Diploma of the Queensland Dance School of Excellence, and Advanced Royal Academy of Dance examinations. After completing an additional Bachelor of Arts degree, (dance performance major + choreography, music, psychology, anatomy & physiology) Kylie joined the Australian Dance Theatre company, as a professional contemporary dancer. She has since taught and choreographed for schools, private dance studios and community performances, and has regularly been invited to work as an artist in residence, dance competition judge, workshop facilitator and sessional university lecturer. She has also performed for many years as a singer/songwriter.
As a creative who has spent her career presenting to large audiences, Kylie understands the pressures and scrutiny of high level performance, including body image challenges and the impact of eating disorders, injuries and burnout. In 2024, her story was published in the anthology, Rising into Greatness: stories from inspiring and courageous women, which was an Amazon #1 Bestseller.
Kylie also holds a Graduate Diploma in Education and certificates in Counselling, Basic Massage, AustSwim, and Auslan. For over two decades, she taught dance, english, HPE and swimming in both primary and secondary schools across Qld and South Australia. She also enjoyed additional leadership roles as a Junior Arts Coordinator, Learning Support Case Manager, Teacher of the Deaf, Waterfront Director, and Health Club Frontline Coordinator.
Since retiring from teaching, Kylie continues to connect and collaborate with global body image, nutrition and eating disorder prevention experts, who are leading the way with research, education and resources, to address the complexities and nuances of nutrition, health and wellbeing education in schools and dance environments. Her network includes a broad community of artists, writers, educators, and health promotion activists who share a common vision ~ to continue to CREATE, CONTRIBUTE, and drive positive CHANGE for the next generation.
